The Women's Association

WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION MEETINGS
The Women’s Association will resume its weekly meetings on Tuesday, September 14 at 10AM at the church offices at 9411 Euclid. The Women’s Association members enjoy fellowship as they make lap quilts and walker bags for the residents of nursing homes together. Then they pull out their brown bag lunches, hold a brief meeting, and eat together before leaving at approximately 1:30PM. In addition to their service projects for the nursing homes, they have adopted an Indian child through Children Incorporated, and contribute to Church Women United and Church World Service. Jeanette Potts was surprised to learn recently that she has been named president, secretary and treasurer of this organization! Talk to Jeanette, or just show up on any Tuesday starting with the 14th, if you are interested in joining this enthusiastic and energetic group.

COOKIES FOR THE USO
The Women's Association recently donated, through Church Women United, over 135 dozen cookies to the USO. These cookies will be served to soldiers passing through the Cleveland area.

Quilts of Love

The Women's Association finished up their work for this season. They completed 30 assorted lap quilts since the first of the year to share with folks in nursing homes. These works of love were designed and assembled during their weekly Tuesday meetings, amidst laughter, sharing and lively discussion. The parlor will be a lot quieter on Tuesdays until their next meeting in the fall.

Regular meetings of the Women’s Association are held each Tuesday, from October through May. The group gathers in the parlor to work on various projects which currently include the construction of lap robes and tote bags for nursing homes, and the making of cards which are given out in South America in conjunction with a mission to help needy people with eyesight problems.

Besides an annual contribution to the Church budget, the Women's Association also makes contributions to Church Women United, Ryder Memorial Hospital, American Board of Missions, National Leper Society, Church World Service, and supports a Native American Child through Children Incorporated.

!Recycle!
The Women’s Association is collecting several used items for reuse in various ministries.

  1. Eyeglasses and cases - soft cases are preferred
  2. Used greeting cards
  3. Used commemorative stamps - just tear off the part of the envelope where the stamp is attached.
  4. You will find collection boxes for these items on a table in the parlor.

STAMPS FOR SERVICE

For Church World Service save your commemorative stamps - persons, places, or events - and be sure to leave the paper around the stamps. Last year Church World Service received $1,800 for used stamps. That money went toward providing blankets, and tools of hope for people here at home and around the globe. Look for a collection box for the stamps in the parlor.

Lap Quilt Gifts
The Women's Association reports that 16 lap quilts were donated to Shaker Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center this December
