Introducing Robyn Lanier

We don’t have enough space to list all the talents and accomplishments of our new Robert Plater Gospel Choir Director, Robyn Lanier. She plays numerous instruments, sings, teaches, conducts, composes, directs, and dances. Currently in addition to directing our Gospel Choir she’s the organist and choir director for another church on the remaining Sundays of the month, and the staff pianist at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music. On the side she gives private voice and piano lessons, and tunes pianos. Recently she returned from being Music Director on a Holland America Cruise Line, following two years as a Performing Arts Professor at the Zhuzhou Institute of Technology and Hunan Polytechnic University in China. She came back to Cleveland because she grew up in Shaker Heights, has family here, and wants to establish roots here, to use her talents here instead of everywhere else in the world. She cannot remember ever being without music; when she was a small child her father, a pianist/organist/choir director, took her on his lap at the piano and she learned to play by watching him. Since then she has studied voice, piano, and theory, and earned college degrees in both voice and composition; she would like to continue her music studies and earn a Ph.D., become a professor of theory and ethnomusicology. Somehow she also has time for sports, swimming and biking in particular. We consider ourselves lucky to have you here with us, Robyn.
